A couple of weeks ago, I attended Las Vegas Winter Market (“Market”) for the first time and it did not disappoint! There are tens of thousands of furniture and home décor to view and the show rooms offer a fresh assortment of products to help set you apart from other designers. Many companies debut new lines, while buyers and retailers make relationships for future orders. Market isn’t just an opportunity to see new products, see new trends and meet with vendors—it’s an opportunity to grow your business, attend education events, and learn from industry experts and earn continued education resources, if you need them.
First day at Market: My friend and fellow designer, Brynja McGrady, and I flew into Las Vegas from Burbank. We stayed at ARIA Resort & Casino and it was a piece of cake checking in—I walked up to a kiosk, scanned my code on my cell phone and the kiosk immediately printed our room keys. After checking in our room, we grabbed a bite to eat and decided to go to Market as it was the first day and we didn’t want to waste time. The free shuttle to take us to Market did not start until Monday so we had to Uber there. We hitched an Uber ride with a very sweet designer from the LA area named Daniela. Once we arrived to Market, we had to get our badges and clear security. As we walked through the gates we saw Lisa Vanderpump from Vanderpump Rules. We debated asking for a picture but decided to forgo the photo op and hit our first building. We started around 1:30 p.m. and managed to accomplish 12 floors of showrooms in building C and completed six floors in building B before calling it a day. We did indulge in a couple of free cocktails and small bites the showrooms were offering and made it back to the hotel room around 7:30 p.m. Once back, Brynja and I formulated our plan for the next day. Wall art and a visit to Essentials for Living were our top priorities for day two.
We hustled the next morning, grabbed a coffee, and croissant and made it to the free shuttle to arrive at Market at 10:30 a.m. We hit our priorities the first part of the day and still managed to visit another five floors in building B and 12 floors in building A. I decided by the end of day 2 that I couldn’t bring home anymore product catalogs—my suitcase was maxed out!
Day Three — Our Last Day
We went back to the vendors that really impressed us and priced out products we liked for projects we are working on. We left Market around 2:30 p.m., checked out of our hotel and flew back to Burbank. I’m very thankful to have made fun memories with my mentor and friend, Brynja. While we put in well over 12,000 steps each day, we made sure to reward ourselves with margaritas and dinner at Javier’s! I’m happy I made the decision to go to Market. I feel like I invested in myself and my business. I’m so grateful for getting out, networking, learning, and thriving with industry peers and like-minded professionals. I can’t wait to return next year!
